Archive and restore

Last updated

Hetscale never deletes a node group or a project; you archive it. An archived node group leaves the lists and your plan’s count, nothing reads or acts for it any more, and its overview, report and timeline stay readable. Restore brings it back.

When can I archive a node group?

Once Hetscale manages nothing in it:

  • its project’s token was erased, or Hetzner revoked it; or
  • no server Hetscale created is left in it: a node group in Observe, or a Live or paused one down to your own servers.

Never while a Rehearsal runs. While the token works, any server Hetscale created blocks archiving, whether it is starting, running, kept after a failure or still leaving; a seed you promoted does not. To get there, lower Max in the node group’s Settings to the number of your own servers (and Min with it if it is higher), so Hetscale’s servers drain, or erase the project’s token. Lowering Max can remove a seed you promoted too, since it counts as one of Hetscale’s servers; to keep it, erase the token instead. When the token is gone, the servers Hetscale created stay in your Hetzner project, and Hetscale does not touch them while the node group stays archived; the confirmation names them, and you delete them in the Hetzner Console if you no longer need them. Leaving Hetscale shows how to find them by their labels.

How do I archive it?

Archive is in the More menu of the node group’s Overview; choose it and confirm. While archiving is not allowed yet, it is disabled and its tooltip says why. A token with Change groups archives and restores through the API, with the same checks: Manage node groups through the API. Once it is archived:

  • A trial that still runs ends at that moment.
  • Nothing reads, decides or writes for the node group any more.
  • It leaves the groups lists, the dashboard and Needs you, and its servers leave your plan’s count.
  • Its overview, report and timeline stay readable; its other pages and its controls are gone.
  • The project’s token stays, because the project’s other node groups may need it.

When can I archive a project?

Once all its node groups are archived, or it has none. Archive on the project’s page erases its token at once if one is still stored; the project leaves your projects and its pages are kept.

Where do I find what I archived?

Each list keeps its own archive. Archive on the projects list, on the groups list (All groups on the dashboard) and on a project’s Groups tab opens “Archived projects” or “Archived groups”, with when and by whom each was archived; its count shows once the archive holds a row.

How do I restore?

Choose Restore on the row. The node group or project comes back to its list. A trial that ended does not start again, and a Live node group comes back paused, because its servers may have changed in Hetzner while nothing read them. Check them, then resume it with Resume, beside Controls on its Overview. A restored project keeps its erased token; to read it again, replace its token.
